The repetitive, sharp sounds of clicking sprung throughout the attic - As if a god were scattering star-like pebbles upon a tar-drenched sky; "Thank god... Finally defeated that Raid Boss..." Makoto sighed to himself, entrenched in his own darkness that was being illuminated by the deep cobalt glow of his monitor, "Great job everyone! Let's split the loot! \(^-^)/ - ShinobiSazakaya"

The sharp shots of the mechanical keyboard rung throughout the dampened attic, only being muffled by the various clothes scattered on the floor, which acted much like a soundproofer for the floors below; like a furious battle was commencing between two warriors, and the stabs of the keys acting like sword collisions - A sudden pinging noise sounded through the room, "Bagsie the Oni Katana+7! - Cécélia", Makoto swiftly responded to the message, "No, let me have it Cécélia - I'm a Samurai Class, and it'll be better for me to use Katana weapons rather than a Paladin; I'll trade you the Purgatory Lance for it; it's got +242 Attack! - ShinobiSazakaya".

Makoto gulped, the weapon in question, the Oni Katana, was a unique event weapon, and Makoto just had to add it to his virtual collection; "We'll trade later - I need to go - Cécélia", Makoto sighed a sigh of disappointment, "Bastard... Oh well... I'd better get some sleep too..."

"Okay then - See ya' Cécélia ^3^ - ShinobiSazayaka". With those words, Makoto closed down his computer, once again drenching him in a deep, insufferable, dark void... Makoto took another deep breath, and a swig of the soda on his desk before walking up to the frosted window; it seemed that the entirety of Rebun Island was drenched in a sheet of snow - Quite the contrast to Makoto's pitch black room...

"...I guess I'm not going to sleep just yet..." Makoto gulped as he observed a pair of large, inhuman footprints spawn from nothing in the plaza opposite his home... Or rather, the orphanage. Makoto swiftly picked up a bracelet from his desk, and put on his favorite trench coat, ensuring that the hood was up - He put on his black, fingerless gloves, and pulled up his red scarf to obscure his face.

As he slowly opened the window in the attic, a gust of wind blew through, carrying shards of pure white snow into Makoto's room. He stood on the windowsill, and took in a deep breath; "Right then... Let's go!" he chuckled as he lept out of the window, his identity being obscured by the light of the moon to his right. He hit the snowy ground running, as he sprinted towards the snow white plaza to confront the invisible threat...

The young man stood in the square, under a crisp white midday sky. A duffel bag was slung over his shoulder and he clearly wasn't expecting such cold weather by the way he was dressed - layered shirts and t-shirts rather than something warm, a stylish raincoat on top more suited to a mild Paris autumn than this icy place. He pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and regarded the building in front of him with an expression of disbelief. With a squint, he tried to read the kanji on the gatepost. Not one to immediately admit defeat, he pulled out his smartphone and pointed the camera at the words. The shutter clicked and moments later the handy app came up with a translation. "Hill of Hope Orphanage." Orphanage. Could this really be the right place? Had he come halfway across the world to meet the mighty Saza-kun, only to find this? He smiled to himself, it was half a sneer. What was he to do, a grown man, turning up at the door of an orphanage? Ask the receptionist if they had a boy - maybe a girl - here who liked playing video games and went by the name ShinobiSazakaya? There was no way he could play the lost relative card, given the obviousness of his difference in race to ninety nine percent of the people in this town. Kids were coming in and out of the gates, and Anton, not wanting to appear to be a stalker and get himself arrested, shrugged his shoulders, stubbed out his cigarette underfoot, and left.

No, he wasn't defeated. Giving up wasn't his style. The plaza in front of the orphanage was wide, and across the way some small shops and, notably a cafe, were located. If he couldn't go in to the orphanage to find Saza-kun, he would have to wait till the mighty warrior stepped forth himself. He went in to the cafe, ordered espresso, found a place to sit. No window tables were free yet, but he was in this for the long haul. He pulled out his laptop. It was one of those rugged types that could withstand pickaxes and being dropped from great heights, with rubberised edging. It wasn't pretty, but it could take a beating. Firing it up, he went online.

Cécélia strode into Soul Ark Online with a perfect feminine gait. She was beautiful in her shining white and silver armour, long black hair, extravagantly pointy ears and Amazonian physique. Not that Anton got to appreciate his character's looks that much, most of the time he just saw her from behind, running around, waving her magical sword and sucking up souls into her bracelet. Soul Ark Online was, he couldn't deny, a kind of addiction. The premise was like most fantasy epic MMORPGs to team up with other players and fight baddies, find loot, gain powers, etc. etc. but what Anton liked about it specifically, was the fact that it was all about collecting souls. Souls could be forged into weapons, used for power, or sometimes could be taken to special locations and resurrected. There were parallels in the game to the spiritual nature of real life, and he wondered if it was coincidence or if someone out there was aware of it. In any case, he had talked to people in game and, maybe it was a few things taken out of context, but he got the impression Cécélia's chief admirer ShinobiSazakaya, knew something about something.

Cécélia reorganised her equipment, killed a few random baddies, and charmingly teased a few male characters that approached her before delivering wilting put-downs. Meanwhile Anton drank his coffee, kept an eye for a free table near the front and cast an eye over to the orphanage. Maybe he had been here long enough for people to start staring at him and wondering what he was doing, but he gave not a single shit. As long as he kept ordering drinks, it was nobody's business. He'd been online maybe a couple of hours, maybe longer, it was starting to get dark, when he felt a thrill of excitement run through him - ShinobiSazakawa was online! Online, and the little bastard had no idea that Cécélia's player was right across the square, watching his home …. "ShinobiSazakaya has invited you to the quest: Oni Mountain," the computer declared. Anton clicked "accept". This was great. He could watch the building, watch for which light went out when Saza-kun got offline, and, as the other inhabitants around here began to put themselves to bed, he could narrow down and identify what reiatsu belonged to Saza-kun. Oni Mountain was a long quest, and if it wasn't long enough, well, he could keep Saza-kun playing somehow.

A couple of times he had to BRB. Changing seats, buying food, asking what time the cafe was open to, pacifying the waitress a little by turning on a spot of charm, going to buy more cigarettes, and eventually at midnight being thrown out of the cafe as it was closing, and being forced into the freezing night, more annoyed that he had to use his phone to connect to the net rather than the cafe's wifi than with the discomfort of having his little typing fingers getting frozen off.

Jesus Christ, it was after 2.30 am, and the quest had only just finished. He sighed in relief, drank down the rest of a hot can of coffee he'd got out of a vending machine, and decided that enough was enough. "We'll trade later - I need to go - Cécélia" He had hit jackpot though, there was only one person still awake in that orphanage as far as he could tell, and that person HAD to be Sazakaya. Anton realised that he was dying for a pee, shut down his laptop and headed for a discreet alleyway. There weren't any convenient pissoirs in Japan, apparently.

Just as he was finishing this little necessary of life, Anton felt a sudden, unholy spiritual pressure behind him in the plaza. Damn, a Hollow. Maybe he had even drawn it here just by virtue of his Quincy nature. Well then, if that was the case, this Hollow would rue it's curiosity…

Anton turned, reaching inside his coat for the dagger, and his fingers closed around the metal, warm now from the heat of his body. His other hand ran over the many pockets where ginto were concealed, unconsciously checking they were still there. He looked up, expecting to see the white mask of a Hollow glinting in the lamplight above. The Hollow was there alright, but it wasn't looking towards him. Instead, it was facing towards the orphanage. Anton followed its gaze, saw the form of a boy leaping from a window and running down through the snow towards it. ShinobiSazakaya …. and he and Cécélia were about to team up for real.

Makoto sprinted down the street, squinting his eyes due to the flashing lights of various oriental lanterns hanging from random windowsills and shop doorways; the neon signs of the alleyway dealers struck a unique contrast between the two lightforms, both alternating in the corner of Makoto's eyes as he dashed to the plaza; it was much colder than Makoto had anticipated, the temperature would almost certainly affect his stamina...

Makoto ground his teeth as he spotted what seemed to be a tall male standing in the plaza, the same place where the large invisible being was located; Makoto took in a deep breath, inhaling the thick steamy fog of the ventilation shafts attached to a few of the 24/7 shop's walls - As Makoto came closer to the plaza, he began to see the individual in more detail... He didn't seem local... In fact, he didn't even seem Japanese. 'S..Shit... Is that a Gaijin...?' Makoto thought to himself, before pondering the correct phrases to string together; "G..GAIJIN..!! RUN..! HIYAKU!!"

Makoto gulped again, feeling like an idiot for his lack of English language skills and accidental use of both English and Japanese; the invisible entity seemed to shift its' focus further onto Makoto, as it whipped out it's long, serpentine tongue, lashing out a slather of saliva in the process. "You're a hungry fella', ain't ya?" Makoto chuckled as he slipped on his prized, geometric bracelet. The entity finally began to take form slowly, as if the bracelet was some form of peripheral for the teenager.

The Hollow was large, standing at around 7'0", it's body was thick, and scaly, like some sort of mutated tortoise; it shifted it's position slightly, manoeuvring it's six, rugged ligaments that held it up. It was as if a snake and some sort of 6-legged turtle had been spliced together through some godforsaken, immoral, unconventional means - The legs had thick blades that shot upwards from the knees, limiting it's movement; to top the amalgamation off, it had a soul-wrenching, blood red mask, shaped much like that of a red Oni's, four green eyes lit up in comparison to the red, horned design of the mask. There seemed to be a second mask underneath the Oni, although, due to the design of the red cover, it could barely be seen...

Makoto looked over to the male, who seemed to be looking at the Hollow curiously, "Why... Aren't you running..?" Makoto questioned the male in English; the Hollow clicked its' neck, prompting Makoto who shot a sharp glance at the beast with his golden eyes. "...Oh yeah... You're still here..." Makoto said, still speaking in a sort of broken English as he took a hold of his bracelet; "Gaijin... I want you to hide." He ordered, as he pointed over to the very cafe Anton had been resting at for the last few hours.

Believing the man had heeded his commands, Makoto took in another deep inhalation; "...Advancement Bible. Atlas." Makoto muttered, as the bracelet began to glow deep green; suddenly, a distorted, glitchy affect engulfed the accessory, transforming it into what could only be called a book - Makoto opened the book slowly - "Paaaage...." He muttered, as he flicked through the many pages of his tome, "...One hundred and eighty seven." He pouted.

"Sazae-Oni. Strength, 132. Defence, 58. Experience, N/A." He muttered again, looking at a simplified, chibi-like sprite of the demonic monster. "...You're gonna be a cakewalk. Lexicon." He smirked as his grimoire began to flash anew, adopting a much redder tone than before... This time the book didn't transform into anything extravagant, like a library of books or something, but instead seemed to condense into the form of a blocky pistol, with what seemed to be a Harmonica lodged halfway in...

"Time to rest." Makoto cheekily smirked again before pointing his pistol at the monster; Sazae-Oni...

"Idiot," Anton muttered under his breath. The kid was telling him to run? All he was doing was drawing attention to himself, from what Anton could tell. The hollow reacted to Saza-kun's shouts with an attack from it's immense tongue. Idiot or not, Anton wasn't going to let the kid take on this Hollow by himself and get killed. Instead of running, he stood his ground, and said, in his native tongue, a prayer to the saint of archers. "Saint-Sebastien, défenseur de l'église, guide mes fleches saintes contre les ennemis de Dieu. Sois attentif a ma prière. Amen." From the dagger he held in his hand, a silver-blue radiance shone out, forming in his left hand a bow of light, and in his right, already nocked, a holy arrow. He could still here the boy yelling at him in painfully broken English to run and hide. How irritating. "Shut up!" he snapped in Japanese. Then Makoto had his wish, the gaijin was gone.

Hirenkyaku brought the Quincy to the rooftops. While the Hollow had been concentrating on Makoto, it was facing away from Anton, which wasn't much use to him. He stood and aimed at the creature's mask. Unusual looking thing, but maybe that was what Hollows looked like in Japan, it was the first one he had seen here. The mask's resemblance to the demons in the game wasn't lost on him. That wasn't the only strange thing here, whatever Saza-kun was doing, it seemed to involve some technological device … containing a book? Had he been playing too much Soul Ark Online and was starting to lose his marbles? It was possible. But imaginary or not, there was a two point five meter Hollow standing in front of him, about to go for young Saza-kun with its mismatched armoury of leg blades and serpent tongue. Saza-kun was still down there delivering his trash talk, and Anton wasn't about to wait around until he had finished. He loosed his holy arrow, before Makoto had a chance to pull the trigger. It headed unerringly for the demonic mask, shattering the red and green mask into pieces in a blaze of bright blue light. Easy.

He smirked down at Makoto. Wouldn't now be a great opportunity to tell his internet buddy who he really was! "So, ShinobiSa --- huh?!" He looked back, the Hollow had staggered back but wasn't falling, and now it's face was the pure bone white mask that Anton was used to. The mask had been a mask on top of a mask? And the Hollow looked extremely pissed off.

A bright, blue bolt brushed sharply over Makoto's head, narrowly missing the top of his head; a spark of Reiatsu flew off of the bolt, striking the top of Makoto's hood, disintegrating it partially - "W...Wha....?" Makoto stuttered, as the Hollow's faux mask shattered to glass-like shards; he turned to Anton, looking at him annoyingly, "WATCH WHERE THE FUCK YOU'RE FIRING THOSE THINGS YOU ASSHOLE!!" He shouted out in rapid Japanese; his anger, however, was quickly shattered as the Hollow raised one of it's gigantic, bladed arms. "Sh..Shit..!" Makoto pouted.

He leapt backwards, narrowly avoiding the large blade by a few inches; "...Now's not the time to be fighting him. I need to concentrate on you, Sazae-Oni." He smirked, once again pulling out his small, geometric pistol; he pointed it at the Hollow that was charging at him. Makoto let loose a rapid volley of blocky shots to the monster's mask, leaving multiple, finger-sized holes in the demon's white mask as the beast attempted to ram into him.

Makoto dodged out of the way narrowly, sliding underneath the beast only to fire another salvo of bullets into the monster's underbelly; as he slid from underneath the Hollow's rear, he was quickly caught off guard by the oni's serpentine tail; the hunk of flesh smacked him around the cheek with an admirable amount of force, sending Makoto flying into a stack of crates in one of the branching alleyways - He wiped the blood from his head, examining the quantity.

"..That's quite the wound you've made, Oni-san..." He coughed, as the Hollow swerved around, only to direct it's attention to Anton now.

"Shut up! Do you think I came halfway around the world to kill you?" Anton yelled back. There was nothing wrong with his aim, nothing at all, and none of his holy arrows would hit the boy unless he explicitly aimed them there. The very suggestion of it! But luckily for everyone, Anton didn't have the time to waste on getting offended - there was a Hollow to send back to Hell. Nocking another arrow, he followed the Hollow's movements as it started to beat down attacks on Shinobi Sazakaya.

What was that weird weapon, firing out square shaped shots? It certainly didn't look like the kind of divine reishi weapons he'd seen used before … and as far as he knew the shinigami didn't tend to live in orphanages and they used swords. This took only the briefest moments to flash through his mind. Anton saw the monster's tail draw back to strike, and let his arrow go, slicing through the tail and detaching it from the Hollow's body, not quite quick enough to let Makoto escape the tail smacking him in the face, but enough to take some of the force out of it at least. The severed tail followed Makoto into the pile of crates, still thrashing. He had thought ShinobiSazakaya looked like he could handle himself, but apparently not.

The Hollow roared, spun towards him. It did not look happy. But then, they rarely did. Anton let the Hollow get nearer, it took a swipe with one of those six armoured legs, at the lamp post he was standing on, but by that time, hirenkyaku had carried him away, to a building on the far side of the square. "Over here, Leonardo!" he called, waiting for the Hollow to take his bait. As he did so, he slid a ginto tube into his hand. First things first, he wasn't going to let Shinobi Sazakaya get killed by this asshole, and already the kid had blood running down his face. The brute had started to move towards him, lumbering at first, but building up speed. Time to switch. He reappeared on the guttering overhanging the boxes of crates in the alley where Makoto had landed, and threw down the silver tube aiming directly for the boy. Had he switched sides and was attacking his buddy?! Nope. Anton said a prayer loudly in French to Saint Bessus, and blue light erupted from the ginto, before it came even close to Makoto, spreading out into a circle of blue light which rested gently around Makoto's location, and faded into a pale glow. "Just stay here. You're safe now," he said.
